Native American Sioux woman's awl case.  Made of native tanned hide.
 Diameter 5/8'ths and 7.5 inches in length.  Seed beaded in wrapping method of colors pink, white, and dark blue in spaced bands or blocks of color.  Top of case has an attached closing flap 3.25 inches long.  This too is fully seed beaded on front side in same colors and design elements.  Two long fringes on front side in same colors and design elements. Two long fringes are attached at bottom of closing flap and there also are bead wrapped in same colors and design elements.  Tin cone and red horse hair are added to the fringe ends.  Bottom of case is also done the same way as the closing flap's ends.  All sinew sewn.  these cases were carried by women on their belts.  A awl played an important part of the Sioux woman's life on the Plains.  She needed this item for sewing and repairing a number of items.
