Badge of the Order was a miniature crown with sharp teeth. The rim of the crown was an inscription: «Dieu me la donne, gare à qui la touchera» («God gave it to me, and woe to anyone who touches it"). These were the words spoken by Napoleon during his coronation in Milan (with 1809 inscription performed in Italian). The crown was attached to the image of the imperial eagle and the whole sign was worn on a golden-orange ribbon with green border.
