High denomination stamps augmenting the previously-issued definitives depicting the East German ruler, Walter Ulbricht. This time the stamps were in larger format.
Walter Ernst Paul Ulbricht (30 June 1893 – 1 August 1973) was a German communist politician. Ulbricht played a leading role in the creation of the Weimar-era Communist Party of Germany (KPD) and later (spending the years of Nazi rule in exile in France and the Soviet Union) in the early development and establishment of East Germany (the German Democratic Republic). As the first secretary of the Socialist Unity Party 1950 to 1971, he was the chief decision maker in East Germany. From President Wilhelm Pieck's death in 1960, he was also the East German head of state until his own death in 1973.
State Council Chairman Walter Ulbricht was a definitive stamp series of Deutsche Post in the German Democratic Republic, which appeared between 1961-1971 and was on sale until 1973. It was replaced from 1973 by the definitive series Construction in the GDR. The stamps remained valid until the end of the GDR on October 2, 1990.

Staatsratsvorsitzender Walter Ulbricht war eine Dauermarkenserie der Deutschen Post in der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik, die zwischen 1961 und 1971 erschienen ist und hauptsächlich bis 1973 verwendet wurde. Sie wurde ab 1973 durch die Dauerserie Aufbau in der DDR abgelöst. Ihre Gültigkeit verlor die Dauerserie erst mit dem Ende der DDR am 2. Oktober 1990.
