BMW Mini One Cooper S Convertible R52 (2001-2006 ) R57 (2006-2013) rear hood soft top weather rubber seal repair self adhesive + cleaning wipe.

This has been copied by many but this is the original!!!!

Save yourself +£300 on buying an original BMW new chrome/rubber seal with this DIY rubber repair for your old cracked , tired , worn out weather seal on the back of that BMW Mini convertible! This replaces the top rubber above the chrome trim only that wraps around the rear above the boot and quarter panels. This being the prone area to ageing and sun damage etc.

How to do it……….

All you need is a sharp craft knife or similar to remove the old pieces of rubber that is attached on the top of your old weather seal making sure you have removed ALL of the old rubber level down to the plastic.

Rubber is self adhesive with 3M style tape and approx 2 metres in total length. Small amount of trimming required to length and around 3rd brake light.

Clean the surface to allow adhesive to stick fully with maximum bond.

Take the new rubber strip and apply over the top of the flat edge where the rubber has been removed and overlapping onto the roof material, add glue to help the bonding process should you require it.

There is a slight size increase with the new rubber where it sits overlapping the chrome but looks 100% better and helps reinstate the weather seal and protect stitching from UV light generated by the sun.👍

(See before and after pictures)

This repair pictured was carried out at Christmas 2020 on an R52 and has lasted happily through the UK winter months and our summer days.

As with most convertible cars avoid jet washing the roof and your new seal. Use a sponge if necessary to clean these areas and bucket rinse.

Use if necessary “Super glue “ at each end and run along the hidden areas to avoid any lifting under movement etc. or run a bead of silicone should you require.

It is possible and recommended to remove the strip to complete cutting away from the car and avoid cutting the roof fabric. Tamper proof torx screws are located under the chrome strip and can be accessed by releasing the side latches. ( boot loading mode) This allows the lower roof to be tipped up. Support open with a suitable prop.

Buyer accepts responsibility for the installation and the seller can only guarantee the part only.
