Originally released in 1979, the FL301 was one of the first low-voltage, compact flanging effects to appear on the market. Its wide operation range and full frequency response allow the FL301 to work with any instrument or input signal to create a diverse assortment of modulation and time-delay effects, from clear chorus and vibrato to thick and deep flanging.

Like the CS505 and CS550, the FL301 uses a standard analog comb filtering circuit to provide its lush effect. A comb filter works in the following manner as the delayed signal is reintroduced against the original signal, "double level" and "cancellation" peaks and notches occur at particular frequency points to create an amazingly realistic, three-dimensional effect. If there is a downside to comb filtering, it is that the "double level" peaks of the signal can cause the output level of the unit to increase, making the effected signal louder than when bypassed. However, the resulting sound provided by a comb filter circuit far outweighs this minor point.

The FL301's 100% analog circuitry is based around a Panasonic MN3207 (low voltage BBD IC, now out of production). Speed and Width knobs provide precise control over the unit's thick spacious effect, while the Regeneration knob varies effect intensity from subtle to severe.

If you're looking to capture a wide array of definitive 70's guitar effects, look no further than the Maxon FL301.
