These vintage The Listener magazines are a wonderful resource of news and contemporary thought - giving insight to the news, politics and current affairs of the world. There are articles and lots of pictures (in black & white), and these post war-time issues are particularly interesting! There are details about Radio Broadcasts, and there are transcripts of important broadcasts, including politicians, The King and other important figures - a truly fascinating look back at history as it was actually happening! Plus there’s the Housewife’s Column - with recipes and other tips.

In this issue:
  • The British Zone in Germany - Major Lewis Hastings
  • Sean O’Casey: Realist or Romantic? Denis Johnston
  • Painters’ Themes - Feliks Topolski
  • The Starting Handle to World Recovery - S. M. Bruce
  • The GI Turns Student - Alistair Cooke
  • New Methods in Treaty-Making - Harold Nicolson
  • Individual versus Card-Index - Lyndall Urwick - Mary Parker Follett
  • British Foreign Policy: Striking a Balance - E. H. Carr
  • Poems: Sonnet by Henry Reed; An Old Farm Labourer by Lilian Bowes Lyon
  • Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth - Wyndham Lewis
  • How to Begin A Story - Dylan Thomas
  • The Period of Talanet of G. K. Chesterton - James Stephens
  • Autumn Books - Reviews by Benedict Nicolson, Hesketh Pearson and many others

The magazine is large format, measuring appoximately 33cm by 25cm, with pages 494 - 540

Condition: The magazine is in very good vintage condition, showing reading wear and some creasing to the covers, some minor tears to the bottom edge of a few internal pages, plus the paper is fragile and tanned with age with some brown spotting and the staples have rusted. There is a newsagents delivery name written on the front cover in pencil. Given that the magazine is around 75 years old, its condition is very good, but certainly not perfect! The magazine pictured below is the one you will receive.

I accept returns, and if you’d like any further information, just ask!
