Reproduction Civil War era Glengarry style cap or bonnet. The cap is made of plaid material,  possibly a wool blend  or man-made fabric in shades of dark green, dark blue, black and red. The cap is inner lined with cotton batting  and with a black, 100% cotton lining. The edges of the cap are finished with dark red grosgrain ribbon with matching streamers down the back and a small rosette on the right side set with a textured gold colored button at the center.

22" around  and approximately 3" tall. It fits most women and teens. Measure around your crown to be sure of the size you need. This is a new, un-used item. This is NOT an authentic Scottish cap, it is a reproduction of the type of cap Civil War era women would craft for themselves and their family members.

Such caps were very popular, especially for  young boys, but were also worn by girls, younger women and men. Such caps were even worn by several units of the Union army, such as the 79th New York. Periodicals from the era shows many  designs for "Scottish" style bonnets under many names such as:  turban, toque, bluebonnet, Glengarry and Scotch cap. Caps shown were made of many different materials such as velvet, straw, satin, taffeta as well as the traditional tartan wool. Many are shown decorated with plumes, velvet ribbons and occasionally lace.
