Late 1890s black velvet mourning dress with long full skirt and jacket. The set is in amazing condition due in part to the thick, durable velvet fabric. The skirt lining has a ruffle at the hem and appears to be silk. Gorgeous trim and decorative details on the jacket and front hem of the skirt. The lining of the jacket is in excellent condition. Double hook & eye closures sewn into the front of the bodice. Hook & eye closures on the back of the skirt.  This appears to have been made at dress shop. There is a label on the neckline but I can only read the words "Holmes" and "Boston." The origin of this dress is an estate of a prominent Boston family who have had the dress in their possession since it was make.

Condition Details: Small microtears in the lining when held up to the light. There are a few small holes near the center back of the skirt and a few small holes on the underside of the sleeves near the cuff. The jacket and skirt no longer match exactly in color.
