a nice, key, bronze age SUPERMAN!
this issue is a fan-favorite, as it is the first battle between superman and captain marvel/shazam, although the character is called "captain thunder"—despite the fact that he looks exactly like capt. marvel, and his origin story is the same too, as told in this issue. apparently, dc wanted to make this battle issue more serious, making capt. thunder evil, and that went against the grain of the kid-friendly "shazam" series, which had launched a year earlier. so they called this capt. marvel clone "capt. thunder"
this is an unusually bright, colorful & glossy copy—the yellow and red on the cover really pop!
*** thanks to a compulsive collector, i was able to acquire a large quantity of this issue, in varying condition, from FN'ish to VF+ (feel free to search my listings for different conditions). in this listing i have *12* copies in VF-. price is for *1* copy! ***
very solid copy; very tight w/strong "eye appeal." a little wear here and there, nothing too bad
page color on 5 of my copies is standard off-white
the next 2 are off-white, w/a little light cream
the last 5 are a little darker, cream/light cream at edges (see pix). i will sell these in order of lighter page color first. i took pictures of the lightest and darkest page colors; you should see the difference (the 2 copies in the middle are between the 2 page colors pictured). but no matter which version you get, these are very nice copies!
