O.R.V. was published by Challenge Publications. The magazine was started by the regular "crew" with the November, 1976 issue. In addition to Ed Schnepf as the publisher, editorial duties were handle by Brian Brennan and Richard Johnson. The technical editor was Joe Mayall, and Neal East handled feature articles. "Tex" Smith provided executive support in the beginning.

The title was published through May, 1978, then was re-titled as Popular Off-Roading.

Like its competitors in this space, the magazine was a general off-road oriented title and covered off-road racing, Detroit 4-wheel drive trucks, featured off-road vehicles and how-to articles. It had the tag line, "The Magazine of Off-Roading".

A total of 19 issues were produced.
