***** After selling quality photos on eBay for 20+ years, I am in the process of selling my collection to another seller over the next several months. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PAST BUSINESS!!

DESCRIPTION: In response to the demand in the mid 1930s for an aerodynamically and streamlined styled tanker, Dodge truck developed their famous DODGE K52 “Airflow” design patterned after the popular airflow design of the Chrysler automobile line of 1934.  From December 1934 into 1940, some 249 Dodge Airflow Tankers were built for many of the major oil companies.  The beautiful Dodge Airflow Tanker in this photo was built for Socony-Vacuum Oil Company and used for aviation fuel for American Air Lines.  Notice the beautiful styling from front to back: from the front bumper brackets, the grille, the hood and fenders, the raised center portion of the cab roof that was carried into the tank compartment caps on the top of the tanker body, the skirts on the covered rear wheels, and the stylish curved lines to the rear of the tank body. Most Dodge Airflows had 6-cylinder 100-horsepower engines, and carried fuel tanks in the 1,275-gallon range. Although the production of the Dodge Airflow Tankers was low in terms of total truck production, they are now known as a true classic of the brief ‘streamline’ era of truck design. My original photo is stamped on the back side: “Please Credit, W. W. HENNESSY, New York” ... probably the commercial photographer that took the photo for Socony-Vacuum.
