Offered here is a 1816 Large Cent, a Coin that I attributed a Newcomb 2 variety.  I sent this coin to PCGS, and they diagnosed an old cleaning and assigned an Extra Fine grade in detail.  I agree with them.  A strong XF grade, but cleaned.   There could be an improvement made to this coin, but cracking it out of the PCGS holder throws away $25.  I could not bring myself to do that.  But, if you want to try this, take the coin out, place it on a sunny window sill for a while.  The result will be a slow return to a more brown copper state.
