These vintage John Bull magazines are a wonderful resource of post-war Britain - giving insight to contemporary thought and ideas. The illustrations, in particular the covers, are fantastic. There are articles and serialisation of many well-known authors’ works, both fiction and non-fiction. And the advertisements are great, too!

In this issue:
  • Cover: Gordon Nicoll
  • The Herring and Holiday Town by Harry Hopkins - Yarmouth - Phyllis Cardew, Ben Harris, JImmy Jewel
  • A Job for the Devil by Stuart Cloete
  • Jimmy Young makes his name with a song by John Ennis
  • The gallant professor by Barry Perowne
  • Above us the waves by Charles Warren and James Benson - Human torpedoes and midget submarine crews - Part 3 - First bulls-eye for the human torpedo
  • Digby by David Walker
  • Live-wire Rowallan blazes a trail for the young by Marjorie Earl - Chief Scout Lord Rowallan - Thomas Corbett
  • Boy with a gun by F. W. Holiday

The magazine is large format, measuring appoximately 35cm by 26cm, with 40 pages

Condition: The magazine is in good condition, TEAR WITH SECTION MISSING FROM BOTTOM OF FRONT COVER, and showing reading wear and some creasing to the covers, central pages partially loose from staples, plus a newagents delivery address written on the cover. Given that the magazine is around 65 years old, its condition is pretty good, but certainly not perfect! The magazine pictured below is the one you will receive.

I accept returns, and if you’d like any further information, just ask!
