At the 2018 San Diego Comic Convention, Mego Corporation, led by Marty Abrams (CEO of Mego Corp and son of the original Mego Cop founder, David Abrams) released a 14" limited edition action figure featuring a realistic likeness of Joe Namath, quarterback of the 1969 Super Bowl Champions, the NY Jets. "Broadway" Joe Namath is one of the most beloved and charismatic pop culture icons of the 60s and 70s. "Broadway" Joe (#12) is especially remembered to this day for his brash guarantee of victory over the heavily favored Baltimore Colts in Superbowl III in 1969.
This Mego Joe Namath figure is a tribute to the original Mego Joe Namath, with updated look and packaging. It is based on the original Mego “Mod About Town” line, which highlighted “Broadway” Joe’s fashion style off the football field, and includes his recognizable fur coat. Mego used a 360 degree precision laser scan of the archived original 1970 Mego head sculpt.
According to Marty Abrams, CEO of Mego Corporation, “Our licensing venture all started with Joe Namath. It was Joe, not Batman that we released first. His feat against the Colts will forever live in football lore. It was only fitting with the return of Mego Corporation, that we recognize the greatness of Joe on the 50th anniversary of his guarantee.”
This exclusive Joe Namath 14″ figure is limited to 300 units and was only available at the Mego Booth at San Diego Comic Con (where fans were able to get Joe himself to sign it as he was a special guest at the Mego panel at SDCC that year). Although, this figure has not been hand signed by Joe, his facsimile signature appears in five spots in, and on, the box!
Figure is brand new and complete (includes under scale football) in original factory sealed box. The box is in very nice condition overall, but has one slightly crushed corner (bottom and back) and displays amazingly well.
