LOT OF 4 PCS. Almost Antique 1930`s The Biarritz Royal Staffordshire - stamped mark - oblong Rectangular Plates Snow White Honey Glazed / Clarice Cliff / SOLD AS IS./  IVORY CREAM COLOR ( the colors may vary according to the light at the photos) 


The Biarritz series with registration number 784849 was first used in 1933 to protect the patent design of square and rectangular base tableware under the artistic direction of Clarice Cliff. She was born in January 1899 in Tunstall, Staffordshire, great Britain's first pottery-producing region in 1920.


The oblong shape was not practical as the edges got easily chipped. It was difficult to make, a round plate was naturally resistant and required little support when firming . 


The Biarritz oblong was prone to deformation in the oven ; as a solution, it was supported additionally with sand and a special furniture oven. Of course, this procedure increased the cost and made these series more special and expensive ( not mass productions; fewer and fewer each time at this oven) Even they were in high prices, In North America they sold very well mostly as wall plates , for decorational purposes. These series were produced until 1939. 


According to the conditions of our Biarritz " Snow White" serie Oblong Plates are : Pre-Owned. In fair condition due to their shape. age, usage. As you see examples on photos, they have some corner edge chips at BACK, Some imperfections, crazing. One of the plate does not have chip at edges but already repaired crack-like part ( 3rd and 4th photos - it was repaired before we bought) So sold as is. Especially like this snow white, some bizarre series are very RARE , so hard to find. Please see all photos as they're a part of descriptions.
