Description

This is an antique primitive United Indurated Fibre Company Lockport, New York fire fighter, water, milk, etc. pail/bucket. This company produced many different products from tubs, pans, bowls, spittoons, slop jar, liquid & dry measures, scoops, churns, butter tubs, water coolers & pails. These containers could be used for multiple purposes as they did not have a metal hoop around bottom base like other pails at the time. Indurated was a seamless pail, not painted like others & not having a metal ring & therefore could be used for water &/or milk without leaving a taste behind. It has a wonderful patina that comes from a piece that has aged over a century.

It measures approximately 11 3/4 inches top rim outer diameter by 9 1/2 inches height. It has an original sticker near top outer edge & although some is missing can make out "DURATED FIBRE "FIBROTTA" "LOCK & what is left of "Guaranted". It has also been stamped on bottom underside base "United Indurated Fibre Company Lockport, NY USA".

It is in good antique condition with scratches & wear marks throughout. Does have expected base wear with roughness on outer bottom edge, one naturally occurring drying crack at top rim. There are other lines that show on inside that happened in the manufacturing process as it is a pressed & molded fiber bucket. A wonderful historical conversational piece that originated from Lockport, NY!! Please see pictures for more details.
