A currency reform in the Western sector of Berlin on 21st June 1948 led to the existing definitive stamps (Gemeinschaftsausgaben Michel 943-958) being overprinted, only the overprinted stamps being valid for postage from that time onwards. The overprint took two forms - a row of posthorns between two horizontal ribbons through the centre of the stamp (Michel overprint type I), or posthorns distributed evenly across the whole face of the stamp (Michel overprint type II).

Available here is the stamp shown with type I overprint diagonal instead of horizontal (Aufdruck diagonal statt waagerecht).
