Elderberry Syrup with echinacea root and elderflowers 200ml

This is a 200ml bottle of elderberry and elderflower syrup with echinacea and other herbs that support the immune system and respiratory health.

Elderberry rob or syrup is a traditional remedy for treating colds and sore throats. My syrup has the extra addition of echinacea root, the popular immune supporting herb, along elderflowers, star anise, cinnamon, liquorice, ginger and cloves.

Elderberries contain vitamin C and are anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and have been shown in many studies to reduce the length of flu symptoms. Elderflowers are thought to help you sweat out colds and flu. Echinacea has been shown to support the immune system with an extra boost for treating colds and flu.

Cinnamon is used for easing coughs and colds as it can clear mucus and is warming, as are cloves, and both are soothing for the digestive system. Cloves are antiseptic and both cloves and cinnamon are antiviral. They also taste great! Both can be uterine stimulants and so should be avoided in large quantities during pregnancy.

Liquorice is anti-viral, demulcent and expectorant. It is traditionally used to treat respiratory infections including coughs and bronchitis. It also adds a little sweetness of its own.

Star anise contains shikimic acid, which is used in the flu treatment, Tamiflu. It is antimicrobial, antiviral and especially helpful in respiratory infections.

This is homemade in small batches, heated to destroy the toxins in elderberry seeds and then preserved in a traditional hot water bath. Refrigerate after opening, where it will last for at least 3 months.

I use beet sugar because it is vegan and made in the UK, so has fewer airmiles, and makes the syrup more stable, consistent and longer-lasting than honey. Honey, of course, isn't vegan and is more variable. it can also contain bacteria, yeasts and moulds which are inactive in honey due to the low water count, but can get active once water is added, as in elderberry syrup.

This is homemade in small batches with lots of love. It is bottled in amber glass bottles and is available in sizes 125ml, 200ml and 500ml.

All of my products are handmade with love and much thought after lots of reading. I only sell products that help me and my family.

Suitably-prepared elderberries are considered to be okay for children over a year old, but there was NHS advice for children under 12 not to take echinacea as some people may be allergic to it. Healthline do not give this advice but it should be kept in mind. Elderberries and liquorice are both mildly laxative. If pregnant the advice is not to take this.
