Cinnamon sticks whole (Ceylon) come from the cinnamon tree. This tree grows in a tropical climate and feels at its best on the coast. In order to harvest cinnamon pieces, the bark and middle bark are removed. This leaves the thin inner bark, which automatically rolls up by itself. These rolls are then dried to become cinnamon sticks. During drying, the sticks acquire their characteristic brown colour. Ground cinnamon, which you can also buy online from us, is created by grinding the sticks.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WHOLE CINNAMON STICKS AND CASSIA CINNAMON
There are two different types of cinnamon: cassia cinnamon and cinnamon from Ceylon. Cassia cinnamon has a somewhat inferior quality and is available in almost every supermarket. It is not without reason that cinnamon sticks whole (Ceylon) are considered superior. The flavour is considerably less strong and more delicate. It releases a subtle aroma. This is because Ceylon cinnamon sticks contain less essential oils than Cassia.
