Designed in 1939 by Swedish Prince Sigvard Bernadotte, the Bernadotte sterling silver cutlery pattern is a fine example of the functionalist period of the early 1930s. The true functionalist ideal — to create objects of everyday use for everyone — is contradicted by Bernadotte creating the pattern exclusively in silver. The pattern is decorated with long grooves and a rounded handle which is the signature style of the creator.
