Rastell Pastime of People English Chronicles FOLIO Woodcuts
John Rastell was a 15th-century English author most known for
his work ‘Pastime of the People’.
First appearing in 1529, this work is a chronicle of the people of England from
the earliest known times through the right of Richard III. Notable contents
include biographies of Richard I, William Rufus, and King John, as well as
histories of other kingdoms including Rome, Flemish, Norman, and French
histories. Rastell also includes a thorough description of the Papacy.
According to Lowndes, this is one of only 500 known printed copies! Very rare! This edition, edited
by Dibdin, was the first reprinted edition and systematically arranged with
facsimile woodcuts. The 18 woodcuts are some of the most impressive full-page, folio woodcuts you will ever
see in a 19th-century printing.
