For bid today we have a RESTORED - Antique John S. Fray Co. No 102 - 10" Ratcheting Bit Brace.

The brace has been completely torn down and cleaned. The iron has all been professionally blued, and the ratcheting mechanism inspected, cleaned, lubed and reassembled.

The jaws and tight and fully functional

The wooden furniture was stripped down and given six coats of a poly-oil finish consistent with was originally on it. The wood is a beautiful open grain, I cannot identify the species.

PLEASE NOTE: at some point in this braces life, it underwent a repair to the shoulders of the waist handle. The original colara have been replaces with a steel ring that has been welded in place (please see photos). The waist handle DOES NOT TURN. this repair does not limit the functionality nor the interest of this unique and rare brace.

This brace comes from an extensive collection of rare and collectible vintage and collectible hand tools. It was restored by the Restores Glory Toolworks for that collection, and it is now being made available as a result of that collection being liquidated. As mentioned, despite the repair, the restoration is simply beautiful.

With the exception of the aforementioned ‘apology’ this brace is in VERY GOOD display or functional use condition.

I am starting the bidding on this brace with a very low opening bid. The John Fray no. 102 is a rare find and does not find its way to auction or for sale often, so bud accordingly.

Please review the photos closely as they are part of the description
