The 55-artwork "The 53 Stages of the Tokaido Highway" is called the masterpiece of Hiroshige Utagawa,
who was one of the most popular landscape painters in the Edo period (1603-1868), comparable to
Hokusai Katsushika.
This work is based on the motif of Utagawa Hiroshige's "Kambara Night Snow from the Fifty-three
Stations of the Tokaido Highway" and depicts Doraemon and his friends engaged in friendly
competition in the stillness of a snowy night, illuminated by the snow light.
*Incidentally, the original woodblock print of this ukiyoe is hard to find and
traded for around $100.
