HALLMARK KEEPSAKE AIRPLANE CURTISS R3C-2 SEAPLANE ORNAMENT, IN BOX, 1999.  This auction is for a collectible ornament courtesy of Hallmark.  It is a Curtiss R3C-2 Seaplane.  In 1925, air races were popular – and the Curtiss R3C-1 biplane was created to compete!  For over-the-water races, a seaplane version was built and equipped with streamlined wooden floats.  Known as the R3C-2 it won the prestigious Schneider Cup Race in Bay Shore Park, Baltimore, averaging more than 230 mph.  The following day, it set a world speed record of 245 mph.  This is third in the Sky’s the Limited Series which features highly detailed historic aircraft.  The number 3 on this seaplane is the same number carried by the R3C-2 in the Schneider race. This series of Keepsake ornaments features highly detailed historic aircraft.  Sculpted by Lynn Norton.  Handcrated – Dated 1999.
