The reverse features a mother baboon feeding her baby in true colors, against African river backdrop, and is enriched by real yellow agate gemstone. Obverse depicts Coat of Arms of the Republic of Niger.

Baboons are African and Arabian Old World monkeys, with species representing some of the largest non-hominoid members of the primate order. They range in size and weight depending on species. All baboons have long, dog-like muzzles, heavy, powerful jaws with sharp canine teeth, close-set eyes, thick fur except on their muzzles, short tails, and rough spots on their protruding buttocks, called ischial callosities. These calluses are nerveless, hairless pads of skin that provide for the sitting comfort of the baboon. 

Like other baboons, the olive baboon has an elongated, dog-like muzzle. In fact, along with the muzzle, the animal's tail and four-legged gait can make baboons seem very canine. The tail almost looks as if it is broken, as it is erect for the first quarter, after which it drops down sharply. The bare patch of a baboon's rump, famously seen in cartoons and movies, is a good deal smaller in the olive baboon.
