Antique Sterling Silver Nautilus Sugar Sifter Ladle Birmingham UK Cooper Bros & Sons

Wonderful novelty silver sugar sifter, complete with patent and registration number. 
The bowl of the sifter is a nautilus shell, the top edge of the shell is pierced ,  
The handle is joined to the shell , to allow ease of use during sifting.
Handle has an elegant victorian design 
The shell has a patent number, PAT 17124, so this design was patented as well, quite unusual for silver flatware.
Overall measurement is about 5 1/4" x 2 1/2"
 Nautilus shell cups decorated in silver and gold became popular in the 16th century, the nautilus became popular again in Victorian times, first as spoon warmers, this sifter design is late Victorian with a production year of 1900.
 The piece is fully hallmarked with the anchor of Birmingham, date letter “ a “ for 1900, the lion passant for silver purity, and Makers mark C B & S.
