Perfect for many purposes, the image on this Poster is a stunning and evocative illustration by Sidney H Sime (1867-1941) - one of the artists associated with the Golden Age of Illustration. It was first published in The Gods of Pegãna (1905).

Contemporary reviews for The Gods of Pegãna (1905) were favorable, including that from the Daily Telegraph (shown below).

Lord Dunsany has succumbed to the fascination of
composing a new theology. If the result had merely
been the fantastic and finely imagined illustrations
evoked from the somber pencil of Mr S. H. Sime it
would have been sufficient ... but the book has a
separate charm of its own, in the language of its
fragmentary visions, in the mysterious atmosphere
produced by the deliberate choice of words and
method, in the sometimes graceful, sometimes
tragic, sometimes grotesque ideas in which the
author embodies the creed of those 'islands in the
central sea, where no ships come'.

Sime's illustrations were particularly well regarded in the following comments from the Pall Mall Gazette:

"Never, we think, has Mr Sime shown such high
imaginative qualities as in these drawings".

Sime was born into poverty in Manchester and worked his way through a variety of jobs before he entered the Liverpool School of Art. While studying at that School, he won the South Kensington Medal. He established a  reputation for fantastic illustrations through contributions to Pick-Me-Up, The Idler and the Pall Mall Gazette. After  he received an inheritance, Sime even purchased The Idler, but the investment was to prove unsuccessful, with the magazine closing within two years. In 1905, Sime was approached by Lord Dunsany to illustrate The Gods of Pegãna and his subsequent contributions to Dunsany's work marked the beginning of a long association between author and illustrator. It also marked a significant development in Sime's career and burgeoning reputation as a fantasy artist.
