We consider ourselves very lucky to have found our third Official Key To The City Of Saginaw!  The log mark hammer is in amazing condition, the head looks like it slide up less than an 1/8” and a couple of tiny marks, but not sure they weren’t from the factory, some tiny white spots, we did not try to remove the spots, otherwise it is in near mint condition.  No scratches to the wooden handle.  After finding our first key to the city, we sent an email and picture to the Castle Museum in Saginaw and this was some of their response -

Your Logmark Hammer was a presentation piece given as an award by the City of Saginaw. The custom started in 1963 and continued - at least -through the 1970s. They were described as Saginaw's version of being presented with the keys to the city. Considered the highest award the city could give.

We have two in our collection.  Both are mounted on plaques and we are unable to tell if they have the mayor's name imprinted on the handle.

mr.yardsailor also called the Mayors office back in 2016 and were told there were no records of how many log mark hammer key to the cities were made and were told the head was cast by Malleable Iron in Saginaw and the handles were supplied by Morley Brothers.

Please do not wait to own such a piece, they are very hard to find and this was once owned by someone special and measures about 13 7/8” long, the head measures 3 1/2” x 1 3/4” 1 3/4” and weighs 1 lb. 2 oz.  The hammer has the Saginaw City seal on one end and the “SAG” logging mark in the other, the SAG logging mark was owned by Nestor & Hoyt.  What looks like a nick on the side of the head looks more like a factory mark than a deep scratch when looked at with a magnifying glass.  We can deliver for free to Saginaw!
