Retellings of the tale of Robin Hood set his lifetime during the Third Crusades and the reign of King Richard I, better known as King Richard the Lionheart.

Richard I was a famed warrior who spent more time out of his kingdom than in it during his reign.

Tales of Robin Hoods deeds are set during this period as the kingdom struggled in the kings absence as Prince John sought to usurp the crown of his absent brother.

Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse side of 2021 British Silver Robin Hood Coins. This fifth-generation effigy of Her Majesty comes with the George IV State Diadem Crown in the design and shows the Queen at the age of 89.

It was designed in 2015 by Jody Clark, the same man who developed the image of Robin Hood on the reverse.

Known for hiding out in Sherwood Forest, the reverse design of 2021 1 oz British Robin Hood Coins captures him in just such a setting.

He is shown here kneeling on the branch of a mighty oak as he draws back an arrow in his bow and prepares to fire. Tales recounted the achievements of Robin Hood cite varying background stories, but almost all agree that he was a force for good who sought to balance the wealth of the kingdom by stealing from the greedy, rich landowners to give to the poor subjects of the realm.
