When it comes to making quality bedding, it's all about the fiber (staple)... The longer the fiber, the softer and more durable the final product will be.  Short staple cotton typically features fibers up to 1.125" long.  This is the most common variety used for denim, flannel and low maintenance fibers.  Long staple cotton has individual fibers measuring 1.125 to 1.25".  Longer staple length translates to a smoother surface with fewer exposed ends.  Long staple fiber tends to be softer, silkier and more durable. Percale sheets are plain in weave and characterized by a matte finish and crisp hand. Just like your favorite crisp white shirt, percale sheets are a bedroom must-have, especially during the hot summer months. High-end cotton percale linens are light and invigorating yet incredibly soft. Percale fabric is lighter in weight and more breathable making it perfect for summertime or warmer climates.
