Up for sale, a 1953 Epiphone Zephyr Regent vintage archtop electric guitar in collector-grade condition and in perfect working order. This stunning New York-made Epiphone is an exquisite and elegant archtop both acoustically and plugged in, retaining its original neck position New York humbucker. Featuring maple body construction, the Zephyr Regent has a 17 3/8" wide lower bout and full 25 1/2" scale length. Acoustically, the guitar offers plenty of sonic immediacy, lively midrange cut and overall breadth, qualities which translate faithfully via the New York pickup. There’s a bubbly, round quality to the pickup, with trebles that are particularly punchy and present, and wound strings that have a definition and sweetness, not overpowering yet providing a rich foundation for lead work and ensuring balance between registers for complex chording. Weighing a mere 7lbs 2oz and professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Epiphone has been dialed in to play its best with easy-playing action, 12-53 roundwound strings, and accurate intonation. The two-piece mahogany neck is bisected by a strip of maple, with a substantial and elegant soft V-shaped profile carve, measuring .920" deep at the 1st fret and 1.060" at the 9th. The bound Brazilian rosewood fretboard features notched pearl block inlay, and the original slender banjo fretwire is remarkably clean, with just a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-4. The guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod, and the original nylon nut measures 1 3/4" in width. The bound Brazilian rosewood headstock veneer features Epiphone's metal "bikini" badge and small white plastic truss rod cover. The original nickel-plated 16:1 ratio Epsilon tuners are intact with a smooth, reliable response and stock buttons. The original electronics function as intended, with the New York pickup wired to Master Volume and Tone knobs, each capped with original distinctive cream hexagonal pointer knobs. Hardware includes the original nickel plated trapeze tailpiece and floating Brazilian rosewood bridge with compensated saddle. The original thick mottled red tortoise pickguard is in remarkable shape too, with some downward deflection away from the pick path. The original Blonde gloss nitro lacquer finish is stunning in its presentation, framed by original binding that shows sparingly little ambering, with just one tiny piece of added binding accounting for shrinkage at the bass-side waist. Cosmetic wear is limited to one small area of light wear in the clear coat just north of the tailpiece on the bass side of the body, and only a few additional minor marks and faint finish scuffs on the body as a whole. The gloss finish on the neck profile is extremely smooth and clean, with just a touch of palm wear through the gloss on the profile shoulders from frets 3-6. The original hardshell case is included, equally as clean as the guitar with a smooth brown exterior and red plush interior. The case features functional latches and the original molded handle.
