RARE, ANTIQUE CORNALINE D' ALEPPO HUDSON BAY WHITE / YELLOW HEART VENETIAN GLASS CYLINDER TRADE BEAD STRAND.

Cornaline d' Aleppo White / Yellow Heart Hudson Bay Trade Beads were produced in Venice, Italy in the early 1800's and traded in Africa.  These beads are comprised of two wound layers. The outer deep red layer is thickly wound around the inner white or yellow core.

The word "cornaline" is French for carnelian, and "Allepo" is the name of a small town in Syria. These beads were used as a form of currency by Nomadic African tribespeople passing through the trading post between Africa and Asia, exchanging beads for essential supplies. In America these beads were traded through the Hudson Bay Trading Post.

The looped Strand measures approximately 26 inches long. Bead sizes range from approximately 15 - 25 mm long x 10 - 12 mm diameter. Hole size is approximately 3 mm.

These Authentic, Rare, and Highly Collectable Venetian Glass Trade Beads show some wear commensurate with age & use; yet remain in Very-Nice Antique Condition overall, and they Will Make a Fantastic Addition to Your Own Bead Collection.
