Theatre Arts Monthly was a monthly American publication that ran from 1916 to 1964. Broad in scope and handsomely designed, the publication contained in-depth coverage of every aspect of the theatre-world, and these vintage magazines offer today’s readers a permanent record of American dramatic art in its formative period, introducing dramatic trends and events, and to the emergence of new and important dramatists, directors, playwrights and stage designers of the time. There are also articles on the emerging movie scene and drama in Europe, South America and Russia. Not to mention the wonderful advertisements!

In this issue:
  • See America First - Broadway in Review by Edith JR Isaacs
  • The English Scene by Ashley Dukes
  • New Theatres for Old - New York City - by Morton Eustis and Frederick Morton
  • Jacques Callot - Three Hundred Years After by Daniel Rich
  • A Theatre for Bennington by Arch Lauterer
  • Poet’s Progress - W.B. Yeats in the Theatre by Padraic Colum
  • The Hermitage Theatre by Jay Leyda
  • The Dancer’s Quest

Pictures include:
  • Dead End - Sidney Kingsley - Scene
  • Jimmy Durante
  • Romeo and Juliet with Katharine Cornell

Condition: ONE PAIR OF PICTURE PAGES DAMAGED. The covers are rather fragile and show damage to the edges and spine, and has been folded at some stage, plus there is some vintage water staining, the staples have rusted. However, given that this magazine is around 80 years old, its condition isn’t too bad and all pages are fully legible!

I accept returns and any questions - just ask!
