Theatre Arts Monthly was a monthly American publication that ran from 1916 to 1964. Broad in scope and handsomely designed, the publication contained in-depth coverage of every aspect of the theatre-world, and these vintage magazines offer today’s readers a permanent record of American dramatic art in its formative period, introducing dramatic trends and events, and to the emergence of new and important dramatists, directors, playwrights and stage designers of the time. There are also articles on the emerging movie scene and drama in Europe, South America and Russia. Not to mention the wonderful advertisements!

In this issue:
  • The World and the Theatre - Spanish Civil War - Execution of Federico Garcia Lorca
  • West End on Broadway - Broadway in Review by Edith JR Isaacs
  • The Scene in Europe - The Young Man’s Drama by Ashley Dukes
  • The Actor Attacks His Part by Morton Eustis - Lynn Fontanne and Alfred Lunt
  • Man in a White Collar - A Stockholm Success by Mordecai Gorelik
  • The Designer Sets The Stage by Norris Houghton - Lee Simonson and Donald Oenslager
  • The Will To Make Believe by John Mason Brown
  • Romeo and Juliet - As Played on Shakespeare’s Stage by John C Adams
  • De Basil’s Ballet Russe - Massine, Lichine, Toumanova and Verchinina

  • Maurice Evans as Napoleon

Condition: The covers are rather fragile and show minor damage to the edges and spine, the staples have rusted. However, given that this magazine is over 80 years old, its condition is pretty good and all pages are fully legible!
