The BMW E70 X5 Differential is prone to failure, this is mainly caused by a few inherent design faults along with incorrect manufacturing and incorrect tolerances when manufacturered.
Due to this common occurrence, we have now upgraded the crown wheel and pinion along with all new Newton planet gears and Differential housing.
This stronger and more reliable design gives the differential around a 30% increase in strength and reliability.
We now have bevel cut sun gears along with planetary gears, custom shimmed in house to give the absolute best preload and contact mesh. In turn this gives less heat and less swarf is distributed due to the clean cut design.
The Crown wheel and pinion also get a full overall, all preload shims custom ground in house to a 1 micron tolerance, along with perfect backlash to accommodate the new differential housing.
This differential is now ready as pictured for immediate dispatch, we now have over 100 BMW E70 X5 differential currently fitted under many X5 vehicles with many happy clients.
The Differential kit includes the following and is a direct replacement of the original differential.
1x Fully Remanufactured E70 X5 CONVERSION differential with stronger differential carrier & CWP
1x New Half shaft balanced with modified UJ
1x New Centre O.E. prop bearing
1x New rear shaft with modified Flange hanger
1x Rebuild includes full strip and cleaning of internal oiling system and modification to increase oil flow.
The OE design also suffers from pinion bearing fatigue the original size / load rating of these nose bearings where designed and manufactured too inferior to take the thrust load required of them. As well as a lack of lubrication to the cone bearings they become very problematic and start failing, a modification is now implemented to allow more oil to the bearings. The Modified bearings are setup in house and to my own specific tolerances.

The differentials are reconditioned with genuine OE components, bearings are a modified item to resolve the fault in design, fully stripped down, cleaned using our in house ultrasonic cleaner, tolerances, preload spec and contact mesh checked along with all new seals, and non consumables replaced.
Currently and one of very few companies in the UK - possibly the only one - able to offer this upgrade. We have many options in respect to mods, up rated / improved parts, and processes implemented. So you can feel rest asssuered that you are purchasing a quality engineered component.
WORKMANSHIP:
The workmanship and attention to detail that goes into one of our Differential builds is bar non you will not find any corners cut here. We pride our selves on our Differentials not only internal but external and guarantee our Units for 12 months.
All my Differential are built by my self by hand in house every part is scrutinized and inspected and nothing is left to chance. My Differential are fully reconditioned units which means all serviceable parts are replaced. I find my self more and more repairing Differentials that have apparently been reconditioned months prior to find out that all that may have been changed is the absolute minimum or nothing at all.
All preload shims custom ground in house to a 1 micron tolerance. A properly rebuilt automotive part.
Rebuild includes full strip and cleaning of internal oiling system, with modifications to increase oil flow.
The item has been completely disassembled, cleaned and examined for wear and breakage. Worn out, missing or non-functioning components have been replaced with new or rebuilt components. It is the functional equivalent of a new part and is virtually indistinguishable from a new part.
WARRANTY:
We'll also guarantee our work for 1 years, or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first) on fitted Differential, 6 months / 6,000 miles on 'take-away' units and 3 months for all auxiliary parts.
SHIPPING / LOGISTICS:
The Differential will be shipped directly to you on a half pallet, please observe how the Differential is secured and fastened to the pallet. This will help you when it's time to return your old Differential
Shipping price advertised is for a one way shipping to your desired destination, and does not include the Collection of your old Differential. This can be arranged at an extra cost.
UK Mainland Shipping is covered in the ebay listing price. Scottish Highlands and Northern Ireland post codes available at an additional cost.
SURCHARGE:
The surcharge is additional to the ebay purchase price, therefore it is required before the Differential is shipped. The surcharge amount is £100 and maybe refundable once you're old Differential is received.
The old Differential needs to be unmolested and serviceable, what this means is that the Differential needs to come complete not stripped or dismantled, and must have no holes or damage to the case.
If your Differential is leaking oil from the case or has no drive, then its safe to say that the Differential is most likely non serviceable. In this case the £100 surcharge will not be refundable.
EXCHANGE PROCESS:
All Differentials are sold on a exchange basis, therefore your old Differential is required, the exchange process is designed in away to make it more convenient for the buyer. Once the new Differential has been received simply refrain all packaging and securing fixings, these will assist you when returning the old Differential. The return of the old Differential is at a cost of the buyer, it is the responsibility of the buyer to return the Differential in a safe and secure method with the packaging provided.
The exchange process can be handled by us for an additional cost, usually the same price as the shipping to you.
DEPARTURE:
Some Differentials are bespoke and built to order, there for there can be down time before the Differential is shipped. We aim to get most Differential shipped within 3 days of the purchase date.
This can be extended considerably if the Differential is a bespoke item and requires a build slot.
