Vintage Pectoral Crucifix featuring Jesus Christ on the Cross with the Skull & Crossbones below his feet and the Crown of Thorns above his head. The word INRI appears at the top of the Crucifix. The Crucifix also features the Crown of Thorns on the back.

The Crucifix features Inlaid Ebony and Nickel Silver. 11cm long. Most likely made pre-1950. Shows signs of age and wear including a small nick, tarnishing and scratches.

In times past, a Pectoral Cross or Crucifix was only worn by a member of the clergy (bishops, priests, or nuns). It would hang from a chain around their neck to rest on their chest.

*The skull and crossbones is a reference to the victory of Jesus Christ over death. It may also be a reference to Calvary.

*INRI is a reference to the Latin phrase ''Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum''. It meant 'Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews'. That was the name on the notice that Pontius Pilate had nailed onto the wooden cross above Jesus' head in three languages. INRI is the abbreviated form of the Latin inscription.
