This auction is for a fantastic original Pre WWI / Spanish American War era bedroll. Named to an H.S. Allen. Very early piece found in an old estate. Made by Harding Army & Navy Uniforms of Boston MA. I couldn't find anything on the soldier, I did get a suit from the estate with his name in it dated 1904 (See last pic, not included in this auction) so that may help give an idea of how old he was. While an extremely rare piece, this bedroll has a very heavy/pungent odor from being stored in the rafters of a barn for many years. Canvas feels a bit oily and smells every bit of being over 100 years old. I didn't attempt to clean it or even air it out for that matter besides taking pictures. Will leave that to the buyer. Some basic stains/marks on it from age, the little mattress pad has some unsightly staining/soiling, 1 small hole in the mattress pad too. Straps holding it rolled are nice, have faint markings. Frayed side edge on one side. Measures roughly 33" wide as shown in second to last photo. Length top to bottom is just over 70". Shipping cost is based on it weighing roughly 22 pounds in a 40x15x12 box. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
