Hi Friends. Here is a wonderfully carved wooden reclining, laughing Buddha. He's about 9 1/4" long and 4 1/2" tall. This statue is the Buddha and a base, 2 pcs. When you lift Buddha there is a cut out area & he is hollow inside his body, so something could be put inside. I am not knowledgeable about what sort of thing(s) might go there. I am not an expert with Buddhism and may get things wrong here, I mean no disrespect. Buddha is holding a bowl in one hand that I read means his is a monk's life, and that he renounces possessions, but rather is enlightened. In his other hand he holds a "wish stick". There is also a bag of money under the arm that holds the stick. I think the bed he's reclined on may be made of "coins".
This Buddha was carved by a master, he is very refined, no coarse/fast carving here. And he is made from a dark exotic wood, probably rosewood?, and up close you see the beautiful streaks in the grain. It was hard to capture in photos.
