Charcot’s, ‘Clinical Lectures on the Diseases of Old Age.’ A 19th-century
French neurologist, Charcot was famous for his lectures and works on hypnosis,
hysteria, and other neurological diseases. The leading neurologist of his time,
he has often been considered the father of modern neurology. This work is one
of the earliest published works specific to geriatric medicine, notably it
contains the first published descriptions of rheumatoid pericarditis and
geriatric hand deformities. Other contents include senile pathology, nodular rheumatism,
gout, anatomical lesions, thermometry, senile pneumonia, chronic catarrh, asthma,
fatty heart, cerebral hemorrhage, apoplexy, senile hypertrophy of the prostate gland,
and much more.
