This is an original colored photograph of the Portland Headlight, a lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. It is shown on glossy paper, matted, and framed in a walnut wood frame measuring 14" x 18." The photo depicts the Portland Headlight overlooking the ocean and rocks with people in the foreground.  It is signed by the artist Marion Wendt in the right bottom corner on the mat. The artwork hangs horizontally.
The Portland Headlight has great historical significance. In 1787, the town of Cape Elizabeth posted a guard of eight soldiers to warn citizens of oncoming British attacks. In 1790, the Massachusetts Legislature and the United States Congress approved money to begin construction of the lighthouse, which was completed in 1791. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
