OEM DUCATI CHAIN AND SPROCKET SIZES:
2002-2005 DUCATI ST4S / ABS  996cc        OEM size is 525x102L x-ring chain, 15t Ft. Sprocket,  38t Rear Sprocket
 
For QUICKER gear ratio (off the line, roll on's, wheelies), use a 14 tooth front sprocket and a stock size rear sprocket.
-1t front sprocket is the most versatile way to gear it quick, this way you can switch back to the stock size with the same length chain. This quick ratio will be much quicker, but slower top speed with higher freeway cruising rpm's.


For FASTER TOP SPEED, and LOWER FREEWAY RPM's, use a  -2 or a -3t  rear sprocket , or a 1t (16t) front sprocket for lowered highway cruising rpm's and higher top speed.
This change is a variation that will make your bike slower off the line with lower highway rpm's. More extreme with -3 rear or +1t front (same ratio change) than -2 teeth rear.



* A 1 tooth change in the front is equivalent to a 3 tooth change in the rear.. but opposite effects.
* A 1 tooth change in the rear is a very slight change.
EXAMPLE: (-1 tooth front = +3 teeth rear) or (+1 tooth front = -3 teeth rear)
EXAMPLE: (-1 tooth front and +1 tooth rear combined is the same as +4 rear only without changing the front)



STOCK GEARING  is the factory calculated "happy medium" of both low end acceleration and top end speed.
