One of the original short films shown in the Ghibli Museum's video exhibition room "Saturn".
The original is "Kujiratori", one of the stories in the children's book "Iyaiyaen" (Rieko Nakagawa, Yuriko Omura). Director Hayao Miyazaki has long wanted to animate this work, which is written about children as they are, without any adult sense of meaning.
The music was composed by Yuji Nomi, who was in charge of the music for "Whisper of the Heart" and "Neko no Ongaeshi."
The ending song "Okaeri no Uta" was written and composed based on the song that was playing when Director Miyazaki used to go to nursery school to pick up his son.
●Synopsis●
The boys of Tulip Nursery School made a boat out of building blocks. Shigeru-kun, a younger member of the Baragumi, asks for a ride on the boat, but is refused because it is too small. The ship, named "ZOU TO RAIONMARU", departs to catch whales.
