Wilde, Oscar. Lord Arthur Savile's Crime & Other Stories. James R. Osgood, McIlvaine and Co, London 1891. First Edition, first impression.
Original tan paper covered boards, with red titles and decoration to upper board, lower board, and spine.
Corners bumped, chipping to fragile backstrip and fore edge as usual, foxing to prelims, neat ownership inscription to title page, otherwise internally clean and bright with no markings.
An aesthetically pleasing, but notoriously fragile production, rarely found in such presentable condition. As with Dorian Gray, issued in the same year and with the same form over function aesthetic, one is tempted to draw a parallel with Wilde's career. 1891 found him at the height of his critical powers, but at the edge of the precipice.
Scarce.
