Antique Victorian Handmade Wood Hat Scarf Rack Oak Wall Mount 25” Vintage Finish

Antique Victorian Handmade Wood Hat Scarf Rack Oak Wall Mount 25” Vintage Finish

Historic Antique Furniture Décor from Saturday's Toys and Collectibles presents...  an authentic antique treasure from the late 19th century.

Circa 1870 – 1890; a solid piece of antique furniture handcrafted in Europe during the Victorian era.

The piece appears to maintain its original stain and finish; never restored (to our knowledge).  To date, we've opted not to refinish this piece, as the rustic appearance seemed to be part of its charm and effectively preserves the original finish.

As originally purchased from the Antique Guild (Dyer Rd., Santa Ana, California) in approx. 1977 – 1978.  Retailers at the Antique Guild wrote a number on the reverse side of the piece before it was offered for sale: WOD01 – 454 (or 45A?).

The number “28-“ is also referenced from when it was originally sold at the Antique Guild soon after being imported from Europe (a noted source of origin for much of the company’s historic imported furnishings).

The piece measures approx. 24.75” long. Includes four original metal hooks with ornate embossed metal figures attached over the metal hooks.  Appears to have been turned from a single piece of oak; and then cut down the center to provide for crafting two identical pieces.

The design features original eye hooks for hanging on the wall.  Appears to represent a male figure with mutton chops and beard as was the custom in Europe during this era.

Metal features maintain a patina that we have left “as found” since our acquisition in the 1970’s;  preserving the original condition of the piece.  We’ll leave considerations for possible restoration to the new owners after consultation with a qualified expert.

Not intended as a rack for heavy coats (based on the two original eye hooks) but appears to have been designed for use with lighter weight coats, scarves or gloves.

Saturday’s Toys and Collectibles was founded in 1994 by Southern California author and media historian, Dave Mason. Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first online specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 15,000 coveted treasures since that time, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers and collectors throughout the globe.

Today, online offerings of archival keepsakes are presented in celebration of the times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately represented by "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a nod to the Sherman Brothers): "Oh, let's go fly a kite!"
