THANK YOU!  18 MILLION Ebay sellers, and you are on my page. OUTSTANDING!

Here is what we know.....a small piece of paper inside the box dated it to at least 1928.
It is pigskin covered. Hand-painted.
Some paper from storage is stuck to the top lid. We didn't want to mess with it as others probably know what they are doing to get it off..

After researching and discussing with others, we have three options as to what this is:
1) A jewelry box. (But with no compartments or trays?)
2) A writers composite box. But again, most we have see has drawers, etc.
3) A Japanese "Death Box".  This is a box left at the grave of a recently deceased (and cremated) person. Visitors would put small gifts or their calling card inside when visiting. That way the family knew who was at the grave and visited.

The box came with a unique item inside. A lock of human hair. (We will not send it along if the buyer chooses not to get it.)

Between the three options, boxes range from 20 dollars to 600-800.
We are inclined to think this is a death box. But if you know for sure please let us know.

We priced this at 99.95 so its either a real good buy for someone, or a really cool display piece.
The hinge and handles are hand forged. It is old. We just don't know the purpose for which it was made.
Measures approx. 10-3/4" x 6" x 6"

So to recap.....this box awaits your story. You can write your own chapter and make it that conversation piece that will bring years of enjoyment.

Shipping will be USPS with tracking.
Thank you for looking.
