Up for sale, a 1962 Gibson EB-0 in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Introduced in 1959 in response to declining sales of the EB-1, the EB-0 originally came with a Les Paul Junior style body, quickly superseded by the SG style body (like the example seen here) in 1961. Lightweight at 7lbs 2oz with solid mahogany construction, this bass delivers pure, fat low-end thump courtesy of the famous "Mudbucker" pickup. The rich growl of the EB-0 sits perfectly in a mix, deftly below the midrange frequencies of guitar and keys. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 50-105 roundwound strings, this bass plays smoothly with easy-playing action and solid intonation. The one-piece mahogany neck has a round "baseball bat" C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulders in every register, measuring .915" deep at the 1st fret and 1.040" at the 12th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard retains the original medium jumbo fretwire which has good meat, freshly leveled and crowned and showing no wear. The bass plays cleanly up the 30 1/2" scale length, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The original nylon nut measures 1 11/16" in width. The headstock sports the original clover button tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch well with clean nickel plating. There is some finish checking on the treble-side headstock wing seam that's purely cosmetic. On the body, all of the original electronics work as they should with untouched solder joints and CentraLab pots which date to the 2nd week of 1962. Hardware and plastics include the nickel-plated two-point bridge, multi-ply pickguard complete with wooden finger rest, mudbucker cover, and pair of black reflector cap knobs. The original Cherry gloss nitro lacquer finish is 100% original with no touch-up or overspray presenting as a semi-gloss, very much in-line with Gibson’s modern Custom Shop Historic VOS finishes. Cosmetic wear includes scattered small dings on the body as a whole, and very faint, tight lacquer checking. There is a spot of pick wear between the D and G strings, light forearm wear through the gloss on the bass-side body edge, and light buckle wear on the upper bout on the back. The neck profile is extremely smooth and comfortable, with palm wear through much of the gloss on the carve. A vintage (non-original) chipboard case is included.
