1890s Pilgrims Progress John Bunyan Part I & II Stunning Illustrations by HC Selous & M Paolo Priolo.

The year of publication is not provided, but a handwritten inscription on the second page is dated 1891, and then a second underneath that is dated 1900. Based on those two dates it is fairly safe to assume the book was printed somewhere in the 1890s (unless, of course, the original owner was an Edwardian trickster who backdated the inscriptions in an act of historical mischief).

Besides the inscriptions penned in ink, the original owner left a scrap of paper in which she had pressed two three-leaved clovers. You can find them between pages 32 and 33. The paper scrap was not torn from the book in case you're wondering.

There is foxing - quite abundant in the first few pages - then more sporadic as the book goes on.

The edges of the pages are a slightly lighter shade of maroon than the covers. At least three pages had folded down corners.

The edges of the covers show a little shelf wear. The front cover, with its gilt embellished picture and lettering, has a few white spots - on the top right-hand corner and in the middle on the left-hand side.

The book is heavy - weighing 1.7kg.

Please do look at the pics provided so you can see for yourself the condition of the book and, of course, the beauty of the illustrations.
