The books include editorials, essays, literary and dramatic reviews and other material written by Walt Whitman as Editor of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle in 1846 and 1847. Edited by Cleveland Rodgers and John Black with a foreword and a sketch of Whitman's life and work during two unknown years. Gorgeous engraved illustrations in photogravure protected by fully intact tissue guards without damage. Olive boards with some rubbing to covers. Spines slightly sunned with titles in black very legible and strong. Pages and binding are tight and clean, no previous owners name or markings. 6" x 9.25" tall. The second volume includes a newspaper photograph of Whitman taken from Matthew Brady archives.
