A fabulous 90's vintage extra large accent berber rug handwoven by the extraordinarily skilled women of the Azilal tribe in the High Atlas Mountains, Morocco.

This wildly colourful flatwoven rug is produced from the region's natural wool and features a series of repeating traditional motif patterns, camels and other local wildlife with interchanging colours. It has fringing on one short end and corner fringes on the opposite end.

The traditional symbols woven in to Berber rugs and within other artforms of the Berber tribes (i.e. tattoos) are believed to represent fertility, sexuality, survival, protection, and the natural and agricultural world. However, the precise meaning for all symbols remains a facet of an isolated and deeply personal community.

This stunning rug, as with all Berber rugs, is truly one of a kind. No two are ever the same.

The rug is in fantastic condition save for three isolated stains as identified in the photos.
