SLEEK STREAMLINED RACER

THE new Cosworth Grand Prix four-wheel-drive car is most interesting and attractive. The unusual streamlined construction fills in the gap between wheels where otherwise there is a turbulent air area. These side members act as a chassis and also space for the bag type fuel tanks. The nose of the car has been shaped as a flat deflector for down-thrust on the front wheels. The four-wheel-drive is taken from the engine gearbox to two drive shafts on the right-hand side, the forward one, with guard tube, passing through the driver's cockpit. The power plant is the Ford Cosworth V-8 cylinder 3 litre engine of 430 b.h.p. Wheelbase 8 ft. Track 5 ft. Same size wheels are used, front and rear.

KEY TO NUMBERED PARTS (1) Exhaust pipes cut away to show rear wheel drive. (2) Air intakes to Ford Cosworth 3 litre engine. (3) Roll over bar. (4) Drive from engine gearbox to four-wheel-drive shafts. (5) Air cooled Girling disc brakes. (6) Drive shaft to rear wheels. (7) Bag type fuel tanks, three per side in the streamlined casing between wheels. (8) Air cooled Girling disc brakes. (9) Front coil spring suspension. (10) Bevel drive to front-wheel-drive shaft.
